A sad fact about the Court’s docket over the past decade and a half is the number of cases that exhibit a clear government hostility to religion. The hostility comes from executive, legislative, and judicial action at the national, state, and local level. The hostility can be express and overt, such as in Masterpiece Cakeshop, Ltd. v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission, 138 S. Ct. 1719 (2018), and Fulton v. City of Philadelphia, 141 S. Ct. 1868 (2021).
